Just a day after launching the iPad 2, Apple is already having to cope with overwhelming demand, according to the new shipping times. The second iteration of Apple’s game changing tablet device is selling like hot cakes, and in a little over 24 hours the shipping time has gone from 3-5 days, to 2-3 weeks, with some AT&T and Verizon models showing an even longer 3-4 week lead time.
The huge queues present at Apple Stores around the country yesterday evening led to some people leaving stores empty handed, and with the latest shipping times, you have to wonder wether the international release date of March 25 will be met by Apple.
Constrained supply in the days after launch are not unusual for iOS devices, so perhaps the lengthy shipping times are a precautionary measure by Apple to ensure they can meet the international launch date. Heck, it’s not like they aren’t accustomed to such high demand, and I would like to think they have measures in place to cope with it, although reports that the iPad 2 backlight is bleeding around the edges of the LCD would suggest otherwise.
One thing we can be sure about is the relentless success of Apple launches, especially in regard to iOS devices, and I cannot wait to see some mind-bending sales statistics read out at the next Apple event.
