The iPad’s battery life is great. In fact, it’s almost surprising when I see the low battery warning. Now that Apple is no longer focused on using your Mac as the hub for iOS, it functions very well all on its own, and so I rarely plug it in at all. As it stands, I have no complaints, but a case that can charge using solar energy really excites me. Just think about a potential future where your tablet doesn’t ever need to be tethered to the wall.
SolaWerks:
This innovative iPad case accessory [called SolaPad] adds double the battery life, High Quality Speakers, and is impact resistant up to 6 feet. In addition, you also get the convenience of charging your ipad case using the standard wall plug or just letting it recharge with the solar panel using sunlight or even fluorescent lighting.
It sounds pretty snazzy, right? Well, let’s not be too hasty. The SolaPad doesn’t exist yet, but it is in the works. If you’re interested in the feature list, you can sign up to reserve your SolaPad today. I would recommend holding off until the product is released and gets reviewed, though. While it sounds fantastic, we need to see if it can deliver what it promises. Particularly, I’m interested in seeing how effective the solar panel is on the back. In any case, solar powered gadgets are slowly becoming more common, and we’re eventually going to see a product that works really well and takes off in the market. For now, we wait.
