There have been a number of attempts at creating a laptop-like experience for the iPad. Keyboard docks and cases have proliferated in the iPad accessory market. For the most part, none of them have been particularly interesting or worthwhile, but this Kickstarter project is turning some heads.
Brydge is an aluminum snap-on keyboard for your iPad. Styled to look like the bottom half of a MacBook, chiclets and all, this keyboard is designed to work not only as a Bluetooth keyboard, but as a stand and stereo speaker system.
With a goal of $90,000 USD, they blew right past that on the very first day. As of publication, they have raised over $180,000 USD for their project with 38 days still left to go. If you want to order your very own Brydge iPad Keyboard, you’re going to need to drop $210 USD. Shipping is free in the US, but it is $20 USD additional for Canadian shipping, or $35 USD additional for shipping elsewhere. If you’re willing to go without the stereo speakers, you can actually order a Brydge for only $170 USD, but why half-ass it? Shipping tomfoolery remains the same.
