Baldur’s Gate remake to hit the iPad alongside the PC

BG1

Fans of the classic RPG Baldur’s Gate jumped for joy when an enhanced edition for the PC was announced this year. As of today, iPad users can join in the festivities. Overhaul Games has officially announced that they will be porting the remake to the iPad right alongside the PC version.

Justin Davis, IGN:

The iPad port will include all the improvements and additions found in the PC version, including full integration of the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack. The title is also running on the refined Baldur’s Gate II Infinity Engine, allowing gamers to experience the original adventure with the sequel’s refined graphics options and other engine tweaks.

Better yet, there will be additional story content and a new party member to go along with the updated graphics and gameplay. This, fine readers, is how to convince people to repurchase games they’ve played in the past. Refining gameplay, taking advantage of new technology, and adding new content makes this purchase a no-brainer for people who played and loved this game all those years ago. It also makes the game much more approachable to younger gamers who are used to modern controls. As long as they can execute on these promises, they’re bound to make a pile of cash.

What do you think about remakes of classic games? Is the iPad the perfect place for such things, or would you prefer developer resources to be used on making brand new content? Sound off in the comment section below this post, or hit us up on our Facebook page. This is a topic we’d love to discuss, so don’t hesitate a moment.
