Hurray! The beloved tower defense-inspired game Plants vs. Zombies will be getting a sequel. “The sequel to Plants vs. Zombies is expected to launch by late spring 2013, and will include a bevy of new features, settings, and situations,” says Stu Taylor in a PopCap PR Statement.
Originally released in 2009, Plants vs. Zombies has awed gamers of all ages on Windows, OS X, iPhone, iPad, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and so many more platforms. At this point, the franchise is practically on par with Bejeweled in terms of notoriety for PopCap. The original PC version has a rating of 88.32 percent on GameRankings, and a rating of 87 our of 100 on Metacritic, so a sequel would undoubtedly be welcomed.
What can we expect from PvZ2? PopCap is now owned by Electronic Arts. To some, that means they will have the resources needed to make the sequel the best it can be. To others, that means that the high standard of quality previously expected from PopCap releases might not be there anymore. For now, let’s remain hopeful that we’ll be getting a sequel deserving of the brand. Until we see evidence to the contrary, the possibilities for a new game are dopamine-inducing.
Do you have any gameplay mechanics, levels, or new zombies you hope to see in PvZ2? Are you a bitter gamer that expects failure? Well, sound off in the comment section of this post. We’d love to have a discussion about it, but please keep it civil.
