Cut the Rope, created by Zeptolab, is one of the most popular games on the App Store and has over 250 million downloads at this point. Today, the company has announced the launch of its newest game at LeWeb in Paris. The new game is called Pudding Monsters and is scheduled to launch in about two weeks.
Unlike Cut the Rope, Pudding Monsters is not a physics-based game. Instead, the point is getting all the pieces of pudding to stick together. It’s a more basic puzzle game where players have to move pieces of pudding around a board. Unless the pieces hit another object or another piece of pudding, the pieces will fall off the board and the game is over.
CEO Misha Lyalin said in the game the player needs to stick wobbly, single-eyed blobs of pudding together and “they want to find the evil, bad man who steals their friends,” plucking puddings out of the refrigerator as he walks by.
This is the first new franchise for Zeptolab since Cut the Rope. Like Rovio, Zeptolab has also licensed plush toys, comic books, and other merchandise based on the main character, Om Nom. Lyalin said that merchandising is a major source of revenue and he expects it to continue with Pudding Monsters, the company’s latest game venture.
