In the gaming industry, there is often a lot of talk about realism. Higher polygon count, better lighting, and a 7.1 soundtrack are nice to have, but they aren’t exactly “Real.” You know what would make a video game come to life? Getting a phone call from the villain. Hell, what if he tells you that he kidnapped an actual friend of yours. Is that real enough for you?
The Hostage Trials is doing just that. Once you begin the game, you get “phone calls” (from inside the app, not real phone calls) from the villain at random points in the day. It could be any time — during lunch or in the dead of night. He has your friend hostage, and you need to do what he says. Interestingly, the game will have you complete tasks both on your phone and in the real world to keep the kidnapper happy. The examples given include traveling a certain distance in a given amount of time as well as changing your elevation. Your phone has many different sensors in it, and the game will be using all of them.
If you’re interested in playing the Hostage Trials, you can preorder your copy of the game by backing their Kickstarter project for at least $3.00 USD. The more you pledge, the more cool things you get, so let’s be generous and fund this cool indie game. Oh, by the way, the villain is voiced by none other than David Hayter — the voice of Solid Snake. Interested now? Good, now go pledge. They still need about $76,000 more to reach their goal of $90,000 USD.
