When working out of a coffee shop, it’s crucial to lock your computer when you get up to grab another shot of espresso so that no prying eyes eavesdrop on your computer screen. However, I often find myself walking away from my computer without locking, if nothing else because I’m too lazy to log in and out of my computer when I get up. However, Appuous aims to fix this issue using low-powered Bluetooth and your iPhone with its new app Keycard.
Keycard is a menubar app for Mac that pairs to your iPhone or Android device. When your iPhone is close to your Mac and connected via Bluetooth, your Mac will remain unlocked and ready to use. However, if your iPhone moves 10 meters away from your Mac, Keycard automatically locks your computer until you return, making for effortless locking and unlocking. If your iPhone dies, no worries, you can still unlock your Mac using a quick and easy four-digit PIN.
If Keycard seems like something that would fit into your lifestyle, you can purchase the app for $6.99 here on the App Store.
