The new iMac from Apple is a lot of things: it’s slim, it’s snappy, and it’s something to behold. But, there’s something that it isn’t, and it’s a big one. The new iMac from Apple is not VESA mountable.
If you like putting your monitor or computer up on the wall, it sounds like VESA mounts are out at Apple. The company’s own VESA mount adapter kit actually references the fact that the new 2012 iMac is incompatible with the mount.
If you were still on the fence about the veracity of this, and think we’re full of it, Apple’s provided clarifications to MacTrast about the mounting system. Simply stated, “The new iMac is not VESA mount compatible at this time … We appreciate your feedback on this feature and will take it into consideration.”
VESA mounts are out. Hopefully they have a new adapter kit on the way, or they get this thing squared away before the fabled Apple Television shows up. A lot of people would be plenty pissed if a television from Apple couldn’t be mounted on the wall too. Maybe we can take some solace in the fact that Apple’s PR team pointed out that they aren’t mountable “at this time.” It’s small, but it could be indicative that a solution is coming down the pipeline.
