The guys in the Macworld lab have tested the top-of-the-line iMac, which is $2,699. With a 27-inch display, a 3.4GHz Core i7 processor and an SSD, this model is now officially the fastest Mac ever.
The previous champ was the 3.33GHz Mac Pro, with a price tag of $4074.
If there was any doubt that Apple wasn’t positioning the iMac as a power user’s machine, I think that doubt is mostly shattered with these findings.
Pros have steered clear of the iMac because of its lack of expandability. But with Thunderbolt being able to drive displays, RAIDs, external PCI cards and more, the iMac continues to gain ground on the high end of things.
