Apple’s iPhone 5 went live online last night at midnight for pre-orders in select countries, and before the night was over (actually in just one hour), Apple’s initial stock was sold out and shipping estimates fell to two weeks. In similar fashion, Apple’s Lightning Adapters and cables are also seeing longer shipping estimates as Apple customers are snatching these up too.
Apple is now showing some of the cables only being available to ship in October now through the online Apple Store. The cheapest Lightning to USB cable at $19 has the fastest estimated shipping times at 2-3 weeks, slipping from 1-2 weeks, with the $39 and $29 adapters only available to ship in October.
One of the biggest changes that Apple made to the iPhone 5 is the dock connector, which went from a 30-pin dock connector to a 9-pin dock connector. Apple introduced a pair of adapters that will allow iPhone users to continue using older cables and accessories based on the long-time 30-pin dock standard: a $29 direct plug adapter and a $39 short-cable adapter.
The Lightning to USB cable actually comes with the iPhone 5 but is also popular as a standalone purchase for customers who want to set up more than one charging location.
