Inkling first began as a textbook publisher for iPads. It also recently became available to HTML5-powered eBook Web apps. And now, Inkling has launched an updated version that brings the interactive book platform to the iPhone and iPod touch.
Inkling takes textbooks and other content from publishers and rebuilds each one from the ground up into cross-platform interactive experiences. Inkling also offers cookbooks and Frommer’s travel guides.
Throughout the last school year, Inkling reportedly had over 4,000 students across different schools use the service in some capacity. Students can now access Inkling on the iPhone and iPod touch, in addition to the already accessible iPad, PC, and Mac versions of the app. Using Inkling, students can watch videos, spin molecules and take quizzes anywhere.
According to Matt MacInnis, CEO of Inkling, it’s “the first time anyone has shrunk complex content like textbooks down for iPhone and made it work beautifully.” MacInnes also noted that for every iPad user there are four iPhone users, so the updated version for iPhone and iPod touch brings Inkling to even more people than before.
