New rumors are surfacing that OS X Mountain Lion could be released on July 25. According to 9to5Mac, there will be a lot of activity going on in Apple Stores during the evening of July 24, which, while not that unusual, fits with Apple’s previous launch pattern.
Last year’s OS X Lion’s July 20th launch date was announced at its July 19th Q3 2011 earnings announcement. Apple plans to announce this year’s Q3 2012 earnings on July 24th, which, if Apple follows last year’s pattern, could point to a July 25th release date for OS X Mountain Lion.
Rumor has it that a handful of Apple Store employees will be working overnight to install Mountain Lion on the public facing machines in store so that the company will be ready for launch day. The overnight activities of July 24 are reportedly smaller than previous overnights, as this year’s Mountain Lion isn’t being launched at the same time as new hardware. The overnight will reportedly only consist of the master image of Mountain Lion being installed on the computers so that when customers arrive in store the following day it will be ready to go.
There is no confirmation that July 25 will be the actual launch date of Mountain Lion, but if last year’s launch pattern is anything to go by then it is a definite possibility. With July already half over, it can’t be much longer anyway.
When it is released, Mountain Lion will be available for $19.99 through the Mac App Store.
