Interested in podcasts? We are. We publish one, and host a couple of others. When it comes to podcast consumption applications, Instacast is at the top of the pile. It’s easily one of the best options in iOS. Turns out, Apple, half a decade late, has decided it’s time to release a podcast consumption application for iOS.
Peter Kafka of All Things D is reporting that Apple will ship a podcast application when iOS 6 goes live in the coming months:
People familiar with Apple’s plans tell me that when its new iOS 6 software becomes widely available this fall, podcasts will have their own app, where users will be able to discover, download and play them on mobile devices. Users who access iTunes via laptop and desktop machines will still find them in that version of iTunes, though.
We’re pretty floored since Apple’s kind of neglected podcasts since originally including them in iTunes, and even them it seems like podcasters forced their hands a little bit in that regard.
There are no details on what to expect, or just how in depth Apple’s offering will be, but we have no problem saying this: if you want an amazing podcasting application now, and you don’t feel like waiting until iOS 6, get Instacast. It’s worth every penny.
