Angry Birds Developer Pulls In Over $100 Million, Mostly Profit

MONEY

In an interview with Ina Fried, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed dropped some very interesting details about the state of his company as well as plans for the future.

Ina Fried, AllThingsD:

The company took in $106.3 million in revenue, with pre-tax profits of $67.6 million, a whopping 64 percent of its total revenue. The company also noted on Wednesday that it has hit one billion cumulative downloads for its various Angry Birds games. “The business for 2012 looks very good,” Hed said in an email interview. “Space has been a major success and we have a few games coming up, including a new game outside of the Angry Birds family. Our animation studio is working on Angry Birds animation series, which will come out later this year.”

Sixty-four percent of their revenue is profit. That is an insanely high margin. How angry is Zynga that they can’t own the biggest and most well known game of recent years? Answer: Super pissed. In any case, Rovio looks like they are doing very well with no signs of stopping. I can’t walk down the street without seeing Angry Birds plush toys or a five year old in an Angry Birds tee. Clearly it’s a good time to be a casual game developer. At this point, they can probably dive into their money like Scrooge McDuck.
