Apple becomes top mobile brand in Australia

The iPhone is on top in the land down under.

IDC’s Q1 2011 Mobile Device Tracker shows Apple has almost 40 percent market share, up almost 10 percent quarter over quarter. Android holds roughly 30 percent of the market, and Symbian has plunged to third with 22 percent.

Nokia’s Symbian has languished for some time, and never gained a large portion of the smartphone market share here in the US. With Nokia set to switch gears to Windows Phone 7, Symbian’s numbers will continue to decline. With Microsoft’s smartphone OS market share growing very slowly, Android and iOS will continue to rule, worldwide, for some time to come.
