On again, off again rumors of a new MobileMe are officially on again. This one fails to die, and that’s usually a sign of a semi-legitimate rumor. According to Macstories, there are reports circulating the internet that suggest that we’ll be seeing a new MobileMe launch next month, and it will be free, just as rumored.
Like Federico over at Macstories suggests, there’s a lot of evidence piling up that a new MobileMe is on its way.
Apple’s recently discontinued MobileMe sales in store, instead, opting to point customers to download it from their website. Also, Apple mentioned during their last financial call that the data center was slated to bootup sometime this spring. Many believe that the data center will be used for both current MobileMe applications, as well as some new ones that could include streaming media (audio, video, photos) from computers and iPads across your personal tech arsenal.
Hopefully it turns out to be true. Being a recent convert to MobileMe, I’d have to say that it performs better than other options on the market, but the price tag is a huge deterrent for a lot of people, considering Google offers a lot of similar apps for free.
