You’ve been able to add an SMS tone to certain contacts since iOS 4.2 Beta 2, but you’re still unable to add custom SMS tones. Apple has, however, added a couple of more SMS tones to their repertoire. The list now includes: Anticipate, Bloom, Calypso, Choo Choo, Descent, Fanfare, Ladder, Minuet, News Flash, Noir, Sherwood Forest, Spell, Suspense, Telegraph, Tiptoes, Typewriters, and Update.
The custom option is curiously absent, but there’s still time for Apple to add the feature. A lot of people have been requesting it in the comments of some of the top blogs, and I have to admit, being able to differentiate texts from certain people by ear would be pretty amazing.
In other news, iOS 4.2 seems to be humming along and could be ready earlier than originally expected.
