It feels like we just watched Apple roll out the iPhone 17 lineup and argued about colors, but the calendar already says early 2026, which means that this year should bring the iPhone 18 family. Of course, at this stage it is still too early for precise conclusions, as Apple has not shared official details, and the company traditionally keeps its future plans private until the announcement. At the same time, more rumors and analyst notes continue to appear and they cover everything from design changes to hardware updates (some sources even suggest that Apple may rethink the usual September launch for the entire lineup).

Because of this, we decided to gather all currently available information in one place. When Apple finally unveils the new iPhones, it will be easy to revisit these predictions and see which ones proved accurate and which ones remained nothing more than assumptions.

What iPhones Might Apple Release in 2026?

Before talking about design changes or hardware upgrades, it makes sense to start with the most basic and, at the same time, the least clear part of the story – which iPhone models will actually belong to the iPhone 18 generation?

Based on analyst notes, supply-chain leaks, and recurring mentions across multiple sources, the following models appear most often in connection with the iPhone 18 generation:

  • The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max form the core of the lineup. These two models appear in almost every report and remain the most stable part of Apple’s plans. Most sources still associate them with a traditional September release, which makes them the safest prediction at this stage.

  • Display changes remain one of the most discussed topics. Multiple reports suggest Apple works on under-display Face ID for the iPhone 18 Pro line. If this plan succeeds, the Dynamic Island could shrink significantly or disappear in its current form. Some sources expect a small front camera cutout, possibly moved away from the center.

  • The most discussed upgrade is a variable aperture for the main camera on the Pro models. This feature would allow the camera to adjust light intake depending on conditions. What We Know About iOS on the iPhone 18 Series?

When it comes to software, rumors around the iPhone 18 lineup remain unusually quiet. What looks logical, however, is the version number. The iPhone 18 models should ship with iOS 27 out of the box. Apple has followed this pattern for years, and there is no reason to expect a deviation in 2026.

As for what exactly iOS 27 will introduce compared to iOS 26, clarity does not exist yet. iOS 26 itself arrived recently and has not gone through many follow-up updates.   • According to multiple sources familiar with Apple’s planning, the company considers a fall 2026 launch for the high-end models (this group should include the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max).
  • The second stage would follow later. Current assumptions place the standard iPhone 18 and a possible iPhone 18e in early 2027.

The logic behind this split looks fairly practical. A fall event focused on Pro models avoids overcrowding the announcement. It also gives Apple room to market premium features without immediately undercutting them with cheaper alternatives. Then, once the initial wave settles, Apple can refresh attention with a second launch that targets a wider audience.

So, that is everything we know for now. Does this information give us a clear picture of what the iPhone 18 lineup will look like? Honestly, not really. There are still more than six months left before September, and Apple has enough time to change plans, adjust hardware, or quietly drop ideas that looked good only on paper. Even the renders and diagrams that circulate today may turn out to be inaccurate. This happens every year, and the iPhone 18 will not become an exception.
