Flexibits’s Fantastical has long since been an essential add-on for me—its menu bar calendar quickly becomes indispensable. The menu bar add-on is still there in Fantastical 2, but Flexibits has morphed its calendar into a full-fledged calendar app.
Aside from the new, full-on calendar app, Fantastical 2 comes with a feature called calendar sets, which lets you organize calendars into groups. You could have one set for your work calendars, another for your kids’ soccer leagues, and so on. You can set Fantastical to switch between which calendar sets it shows based on your location. This means, for example, that you can view only your work calendars while at the office, or your personal calendars at home.
This new version takes advantage of features specific to OS X Yosemite, and includes a Notification Center widget, share sheet extension, and action extension. And it looks right at home on Yosemite, thanks to its freshened-up interface.
That just scratches the surface of what Fantastical 2 offers. You can purchase Fantastical 2 as of this writing for $39.99, which is 20 percent off the regular price of $49.99. It costs a bit more than the old, menu-bar-only calendar, but this new version does so much more. You can download a free two-week trial, though, and take it for a spin before you decide to buy the app.
