The best browser for iOS continues to get better. Today, Google released a new update for its Safari competitor that brings with it a couple of new useful features.
The highlight of the update is the new ability to hide the browser’s toolbar when using an iPhone or iPod touch. Users can now simply swipe away the toolbar to have a fullscreen view of the web page they’re on. This is a super useful feature when you consider how limited space is on the small screens of the iPhone and iPod touch.
Another feature included in update 26.0.1410.50 is a quick new way to access the omnibox at the top of the browser. Now making a simple twitch gesture when scrolling down a page will send you back to the omnibox without having to manually scroll all the way back. Other features include the ability to print web pages with Google Cloud Print or AirPrint and the ability to save any page as a PDF to Google Drive. The update also includes the traditional bug/stability fixes.
As Chrome continues to widen its feature set from Safari, it’s beginning to get more and more frustrating that Apple doesn’t allow its users to use a third party browser as the default web browser on iOS.
