Sony recently confirmed that PlayStation Plus will play a “prominent role” in the new PlayStation 4. PlayStation Plus is the premium PlayStation Network service that gives subscribers access to a rotating library of free games and other digital benefits.
The Sony PlayStation Plus service also allows for online storage, automatic software updates and discounts on their PlayStation 3 console.
SCEE boss Jim Ryan said in an interview with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe PlayStation Blog manager Fred Dutton that PS Plus takeup has tripled over the last 12 months and Sony is hoping to keep the momentum going with the release of the PS4.
“We’re very happy with the service that we’ve been able to offer with PS Plus,” he said. “We definitely see that as a core part of the way forward. We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus, but there will definitely be a prominent role for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape.”
Now, if we can just get a look at the console…
