Late last night Apple quietly updated its U.S. online store to offer unlocked iPhone 5s for those who are anti-contract. After promising it would be available just weeks after its initial launch, it’s finally arrived.
Starting at $649, unlocked iPhone 5s are available in three different versions, with 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage options for $649, $749, and $849, respectively. Unlocked iPhone 5s will work with any GSM network in the U.S., like AT&T and T-Mobile, but not CDMA networks, like Verizon and Sprint, so make sure to check if the unlocked iPhone 5 will work with your carrier.
The unlocked iPhone 5 is already available in a number of countries around the world, including Canada and Europe. Like previous launches, Apple decided to delay the unlocked device in the States. Apple is limiting sales to two per customer and the unlocked devices are currently at a one week shipping estimate.
Apple’s actual retail stores could reportedly begin selling unlocked iPhone 5s tomorrow as various stores have apparently begun receiving the devices “in large quantities” this week.
